Understanding our mission, values, and commitment to connecting communities across Australia for sustainable energy accountability
Local Passion. United Voice emerged from a growing recognition that the current approach to large-scale project development often overlooks the voices and concerns of local communities.
Founded in 2025, our platform began when several independent community action groups across New South Wales and Victoria realized they were facing similar challenges: proposed renewable energy projects that, lacked adequate community consultation, environmental consideration, and sustainable planning approaches.
This is a crucial point that defines our mission. All projects must be sustainable with genuine community involvement, environmental protection, and sustainable development practices that serve both environmental goals and community interests.
What started as isolated local concerns quickly revealed a pattern across Australia: communities wanted to be genuine partners in the renewable energy transition, not passive recipients of projects decided elsewhere. Our platform now connects these communities, amplifying their collective voice and sharing resources for effective advocacy.
The reckless pace of the transition has and will continue to damage the environment, land, water and communities across Australia. This has to STOP.
To connect, support, and amplify the voices of local communities across Australia who are advocating for responsible, sustainable, and community-inclusive renewable energy development.
We believe renewable energy development should:
From individual community concerns to a coordinated network – here’s how Local Passion. United Voice came to be.
The emergence of these groups coincide with the expansion of renewable energy initiatives in the regions over the past decade.
No coordinated approach to help these communities. Poor engagement practices by renewable energy proponents, typically from overseas, continue.
First connections made between Stop Boree, Colbinabbin Renewable Action Group, and other community groups through social media and word of mouth.
Groups begin coordinating efforts, sharing resources, and developing common advocacy strategies while maintaining local autonomy.
Local Passion. United Voice platform officially launches, providing a central hub for community groups across Australia.
Four active member groups representing over 2,400 community members, with inquiries from additional groups across multiple states.
We take a collaborative, constructive approach to advocacy that focuses on solutions rather than simple opposition.

We bring together local action groups facing similar challenges, creating a network for sharing experiences, strategies, and resources.

Our platform facilitates the exchange of information about planning processes, best practices, and effective advocacy strategies.

By coordinating our efforts, individual community concerns become part of a larger, more influential collective voice.

We work toward policy and practice improvements that ensure renewable energy development serves everyone's interests.
Local Passion. United Voice is a grassroots initiative led by community members who are passionate about ensuring Australia’s renewable energy transition serves everyone’s interests.

Founding Coordinator
We bring together local action groups facing similar challenges, creating a network for sharing experiences, strategies, and resources.

Regional Coordinators
Representatives from each member action group who provide local insights, coordinate regional activities, and ensure the platform serves the diverse needs of communities across different states and project types.

Strategic Advisory Group
Experienced community advocates, environmental professionals, and planning experts who provide strategic guidance on policy engagement, best practices, and sustainable advocacy approaches.
We take a collaborative, constructive approach to advocacy that focuses on solutions rather than simple opposition.

No single organization controls the network. Decisions are made collaboratively with input from all member groups.

Virtual meetings ensure ongoing communication and strategic alignment.

Each member group maintains complete independence while benefiting from network support and coordination.

Major decisions require consensus among member groups, ensuring all voices are heard and respected.

We believe in working together - communities with developers, governments, and each other - to find solutions that work for everyone.

True sustainability considers environmental, social, and economic factors together, not just carbon reduction in isolation.

Local communities should be genuine partners in energy projects that affect their homes, landscapes, and way of life.

Open, honest communication and decision-making processes are essential for building trust and achieving good outcomes.

We seek solutions that balance climate action with environmental protection, community welfare, and economic sustainability.

We focus on practical solutions and positive engagement rather than simple opposition or criticism.
A lot of people and industries have solar and battery systems installed to meet their needs and lower prices (for them). If a project has Social Licence (ie) people genuinely want it, and the project does not harm the environment, land, water or other uses, does not cause increases in prices nor reduce power reliability and availability then it can be sustainable. Examples may include use of battery systems on an old coal fired generation plant sites which already has the infrastructure in place; air compression power generator in disused underground mines which also have power transmission systems in place; solar systems installed on rehabilitated mine sites and tailings storage facilities – there are many examples. Unfortunately there are MANY MORE examples of unsustainable projects being pushed through.
Absolutely not. We strongly support Australia’s transition to renewable energy as part of the energy mix that does not increase power prices, reduce power reliability and jeopardise the rights of everyday people. However, we believe this transition must be done responsibly, with proper community consultation, environmental protection, and sustainable development practices.
We focus on collaboration and solutions rather than simple opposition. Our member groups work constructively with developers, governments, and other stakeholders to achieve better outcomes for both renewable energy development and community interests.
We are totally independent. We do communicate, coordinate and consult with all layers of government to advocate for sustainable development. We believe constructive engagement with all stakeholders is essential. We work to ensure community voices are heard in policy development and project planning processes, always advocating for better consultation and more sustainable approaches.
