To the President and Members of the Legislative Council, the petitioners of the small rural communities of Geurie and Wongarbon state that the townships already bear nearly 20 per cent of the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone capacity, with renewable infrastructure surrounding and encroaching on their ability to grow, adversely impacting landscapes and State Significant Agricultural Land (SSAL). New projects including Boree Solar Farm (Venn Energy) would raise this to over 23 per cent, increasing cumulative impacts without social licence. The petitioners request that the House temporarily suspend assessment of Boree and nearby proposed renewable energy projects until a cumulative social impact assessment within 30 kilometres of Geurie is completed, and introduce mandatory legal protections of 10-kilometre exclusion zones around small rural towns to protect future growth and enforceable safeguards for SSAL.
